Phoenix-eyed Bodhi: The Wisdom Eye of the Buddha, Illuminating the Path to Bodhi for All Beings

In the Buddhist classics and traditions, the phoenix-eyed bodhi has a deep connection with the Buddha. The “phoenix eye” in its name is not the eye of an ordinary bird or animal, but symbolizes the Buddha's eye of wisdom - the eye that can see the cause and effect of the three worlds and the nature of the hearts of all living beings.

A witness to the Buddha's enlightenment
According to legend, when Sakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, the rosary held in his hand was a phoenix-eyed Bodhi. The natural lines on the fruit resemble the slightly drooping eyes of the Buddha, silently gazing at the entire process of the Buddha's six years of austerity, subduing the demons, and ultimately realizing the truth. Therefore, the Phoenix Eye Bodhi is regarded as “the witness of Buddha's enlightenment”, carrying the energy of supreme enlightenment.

The embodiment of the eye of wisdom
The Buddha's wisdom is often described in Buddhist scriptures as the “clear eye of the Dharma”, and the lines of the phoenix-eyed bodhi resemble a half-closed Buddha's eye:

Compassionate Eyes: The Buddha looks down at all living beings with lowered eyebrows, reminding practitioners to treat the world with compassion.

The eye of the Buddha is like the eye of the Vajra, which is able to see through the three poisons of greed, anger and dementia, so that the wearer can always keep his/her mind on the right path.
According to the Lama Sutra, “He who opens the eyes of wisdom sees the emptiness of all dharmas”, and the Phoenix Eye Bodhi is the embodiment of this “eyes of wisdom”, which helps one to keep away from the upside-down dreams.

Third, the practitioner's “portable Buddha”
As the old saying goes, “Holding a Bodhi bead is like having a Buddha in your hand.” Because of its deep connection with Buddha, the Phoenix-eyed Bodhi has been regarded as “the continuation of Buddha's wisdom” by monks throughout the ages:

Rosary Function: In Tibetan Buddhism, the phoenix-eyed bodhi is a sacred object for chanting and counting, and every time you pluck one, it is like being close to the Buddha's teachings.

Tantric Symbolism: The “eye” in the pattern of the rosary alludes to the “wisdom eye” in the “five eyes and six powers” of Buddhism, through which the wearer corresponds to the Buddha's mind.

Viewing the mind with the Buddha's eyes is a spiritual practice.
The Phoenix Eye Bodhi is not only a string of beads, but also a link to the Buddha's wisdom. It reminds us that “Bodhi has no tree, and a mirror is not a platform” - true enlightenment does not lie in external objects, but in the ability to see one's own true nature with the pure eyes of the Buddha.
